Hello to everyone! My name is Jane Essenburg. This will be my 26th year teaching for Jenison Public Schools and I feel incredibly blessed. There is nothing I would rather do, and I consider it such a privilege to be your child's teacher.
I graduated from Calvin College with a degree in Language Arts and Education. I then attended the University of Michigan for my graduate degree in Information and Library Studies. I started with Jenison Public Schools as a Media Specialist. Four years later I moved into a 6th grade classroom. I taught 6th grade for two years and 4th grade for one year before I settled into 3rd grade, and that is where I found my niche. What a wonderful age! Third graders are inquisitive, enthusiastic, hard-working, creative, and incredibly fun to be around. There is never a dull moment and every year I learn a little more.

I am the proud mother of three fine sons. Sam is 23 and is attending Grand Valley State University. Nick is 21 and is attending the University of Michigan in the College of Engineering, and Joey is 18 and will be a junior at Jenison High School. He is one of the drum majors for the marching band so you will see me at all of the football games cheering on both the band and the team!
Some of my hobbies include reading, writing, kayaking, collecting minerals, and Doctor Who (and other science fiction/fantasy). I am a comic book fan as well. We also have two cats that keep us entertained.
Troy is the black cat and Lucy is the orange cat. Here they are helping me with the laundry.
I look forward to learning and growing together in the year ahead!
